The 1940s dance is a regular event held in and around Ashbourne, Derbyshire. It started in July 2013 as a swing/R&R night and has passed through Glenn Miller and Christmas themes to its current format; a balance of Ballroom, Sequence, Swing, Stroll and Jive to the most popular tunes of the 40s and early 50s.
It features a smaller version of the Ashby Big Band, the 8 piece Ashby "little" Big Band.
The Ashby Big Band hails from the market town of Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. Now in its 9th year, the band is one of the best Glenn Miller/Swing When You're Winning acts on the 40s circuit. In addition to playing at many of the Country's leading War Weekends the "little" band play at regular Monthly dances around the Midlands and throughout the Country at parties and events where only the best from the Swing era will do!
Hulland Ward Millennium Village Hall, Dog Land, Ashbourne DE63EA is a modern village hall built in 2000. It has a capacity of 200 although for the 1940s dance numbers will be limited to 120.
